Hopefully we all will still be as dedicated to the Scouting program as this eighty year old assistant Scoutmaster in Minnesota when we reach that age.

Some of you may know of Buttons, the radical Boy Scout, and have seen some of his videos. You have probably read the recent post about the eighty year old assistant scoutmaster. What happens when they meet in the woods on a troop outing and conduct an interview? Well, it ain't no Larry King style interview, that is for sure.

Check it out at

The fact that many adults stay active beyond the years that their own children are in the scouting programs is a real testament to the personal satisfaction and enjoyment that can be gotten out of scouting as a volunteer.

Each year hundreds, if not thousands, of adult volunteers around the country celebrate decades of years of service to the BSA and their communities. We have a number of individuals in our council with 20 to 65 plus years of membership in the BSA.

The opportunity to help young people grow in character, fitness and citizenship can be a lot of fun to leaders with the right attitude and outlook on life. Hopefully Eymard's 20 years of service, and that fact that he still finds his volunteerism in scouting fun and rewarding at the age of 80, will give other parents pause to consider what they could be gaining out of being a scouting volunteer.
