When do your Packs get back together

Hi there,
Running into a bit of a problem where September is basically lost due to school conflicts with our Pack and Den nights. When do your packs start meeting together? End of August or beginning of September?

Well, as a Pack, we meet at various activities throughout the summer months.

Regular Committee meetings start at the beginning of August. August is also time for Day Camp and our picnic/rocket shoot. At the end of August, when school starts, we start our registration nights.

The Dens usually start meeting the 2nd or 3rd week of September since the week of Labor Day is just to short and busy. Our First Pack meeting is the last Tuesday in September.

Packs really should be meeting year round. By that I mean during the summer months there should be at least one Pack activity per month. Dens could also have activities if they so choose. Not everyone will be there though, but the Pack will be kept together. Scouting is a year round program and BSA has set up programs to encourage it. Check into the Summertime Pack Award and the Cub Scout Outdoors Activity Award.

A lot of Districts/Councils do have some activities to also help, such as Day Camps and Webelos Resident Camps. I have also seen Districts and individual units hold picnics. Also summer is a great time to have a yearly planning session for the Pack. Some might do it in the Spring though.

To answer one of your questions about when do you start meeting again on a “regular basis”, it really depends on when schools start and start as soon as schools back in session. By then, you should have your yearly program in place and are up and running with a plan when the recruiting program starts in the schools. You can just imagine how successful your recruiting will be to the boys and their parents (and potential new leaders) when they see all the fun and activities they have to look forward to.

I hope they're meeting by now. :) We meet in August for our last summertime activity, after school night but before school starts; to meet those who have already signed up, potential members, and to welcome back everyone else.

Then, our first Pack Meeting is the last week of September. For some Dens, this may be their first meeting. But, it get's new scouts and families (especially the Tigers); acclimated to our Pack Meeting format and allow us to present awards for activities and ranks earned over the summer.
