Does anyone have ideas on how to put some fun into this achievement? How did you present each topic? Thanks

Schedule a trip to your local fire house or fire training facility. Some fire depts. have a smoke house where scouts can practice fire escape in smokey conditions. Boys love to practice Stop, Drop and Roll but use mats. For the other requirements you can have the boys act out the scenarios using props. Most fire depts have an officer in charge of educating the public on safety issues. I've found that they are very accomodating to special requests. Show them your handbook, they may have some good ideas. Often they apppreciate these requests as it lets them tailor their program for future visiting scout groups.

Most of this is discussed in the Handbook. Since the requirements all say "Tell what to do" or "With your family", I feel this is best done at home with the family.

Too little too late this year, but capitalizing on Fire Prevention Week in October would save a lot of planning. Also, some local police departments put on demonstrations throughout the year at certain events. Also, talk to your local City or County Emergency Management Agencies; Amature Radio Relay Leagues; and even the utiltiy copmanies, too. Not only do they have pamphlets you can use, but they also put on preparedness fairs, too.

I scheduled a trip to our local firehouse last year. The fireman that put on the talk looked over the book and had a few other Firemen help out by putting on the equipement. The boys loved it especcially when we went out and looked over the trucks. They also offered to do the Webelos Ready Man requirements this year.

We had a member from the police and fire department come in an talk to the den about the proper proceedures on using 911 and other safety concerns.
The following week we practiced situations where the scouts needed to be ready.
At the Pack meeting, we held a Bear den vs. the Pack leadership on situations from a hat.
We had the leadership intentionally mess up the proceedures and we had the Bears correct the leaders. If there were any unsure answers we had the opportunity to give the proper way of doing things.
Everyone had a great time and the boys all learned from the experience.
Don't forget to use the articles from Boy's Life on scouts in action.
Make it fun.

That was a great idea.
