Recently, I met a man in our Council who has 70 yrs. in scouting.
He is still active in the Mom and Son Camps, Dad and Lad and Grandparent and Me camps. He also teaches leathercraft at Cub Scout College and makes ball point pens and other assorted woodcraft projects.
I was able to speak with him at some length about scouting and the changes that have occurred from when he was a scout to present date.
I am going to get him to grant a formal interview and document his wisdom on scouting before he is no longer with us.
The man is 83 and believes that he'll be around until he's 102. He plans on being active in scouting until he is no longer needed or he just up and quits (physically).
I know that there are probably more men like him in the BSA program and I would encourage others to document their wisdom before it becomes lost.
Scouters like this man are few and far between and I think the contributions they have given to the program are well worth listening to.
I would like to ask each and everyone of you to take the time to seek these scouters out before it's too late to learn from their past.
