Criminal Background Checks

Well, it looks like National is finally getting around to requiring background checks on those volunteers who have been registered since before 2003 (when National started doing CBCs and requiring SSNs). Those affected volunteers will be receiving a letter from National and will have from June1 - Aug 1, 2008, to consent to a CBC. Anyone who does not consent, and submit their SSN, will loose their registration until they turn in a new BSA application.

This will cover all BSA units and LFL Explorer posts.

National will be sending out letters to the affected Scouters in June with all of the information.

I am not sure what other info you need. National is bringing all of it's "old" Scouters up to date with Criminal Background checks. Seems like a good idea, and past time, to me.

I have no idea how many people this is going to affect but it could sure be a monster project with a huge price tag.
I'm just thankful that it is going to be done. I think every Scouter and parent welcomes it and thanks the people who are seeing it done.
