I'm hearing from packs and troops all over that they have ordered US Heritage awards from Nationstrails.com months ago but haven't received them. My unit is planning on working on the silver award this Fall. Now I'm afraid to send them money or have the boys work on an award that we may never be able to present them. Does anyone have any information?

I had one unit that had major problems with receiving their medals.
The leader finally got through and left a message on their voice mail threatening to take this issue up with National.
They immediately were able to send the medals almost overnight.
Nations Trails claim was that there was only one person to handle the orders and that person was on vacation.
They also stated that they were having problems with their email and telephone system and that it had been corrected.
This was the one an only incident that I have come across as the unit was the only one in my District to work on these medals.

They appear to have a single drop off box for mail and an answering machine for phone calls. If no one goes to the PO box for months at a time then things don't get ordered for months at a time.
I have heard of units that ordered their medals at the end of last year and their checks were JUST cashed in the last month. When they will get anything is anyone's guess.
My suggestion is to work on the Nation Trail's award, but to order a patch or other award from some other company. There are many reputable companies on the Web that offer in stock or custom patches for a reasonable price and deliver within a reasonable time frame.

There's a ton of BSA resources available for leaders to use: the Handbooks, Cub Scout Leader Book, Program Helps, Cub Scout LNT materials, World Conservation Award, Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award, Emergency Preparedness, the Academics & Sports Program Guide. Why mess with a non-BSA internet web site for ideas and awards? The Scout Shop is full of awards, medals, patches, pins, and ribbons.

I hadn’t heard of this award until I saw it in this forum. It look like a great program and has some great looking awards. Earning the award will also help met some BSA requirements.
However, I do agree with Frank regarding all the BSA programs which are available. There are an abundance of them including a Summertime Award for the Cubs.

That may well be true. But does it not make sense for a leader in the Scouting program to first avail oneself of the resources provide by Scouting? When one has learned everything Scouting has to offer, then maybe it might be OK to cruise the internet looking to see what somebody else has thunk up.
