Hey I just wanted to encourage everyone to start up a website, and if your unit already has one, then let us know what your site is in this forum.
Also, if you do already have a site, but you feel it needs a major facelift, then let me suggest a couple of website content management tools...
The first one is called Joomla www.joomla.com (http://www.joomla.com) . My sites are running joomla.
The second one is called Mambo www.mamboserver.com (http://www.mamboserver.com) . I started with Mambo and switched to Joomla. Why? I felt Joomla was more organized and stabler, however, both are working tools and have regular updates that fix bugs that are found later after the stable version is released.
Once you have a website and you would like to be included in a database for others to search, then included it in www.scoutsearch.org.uk (http://www.scoutsearch.org.uk) . I'm suggesting this because it is really the only database available for scout units. However, if you know of others, please let us know where they are.

I’ve used Joomla in the past but I find Google’s Blogger much easier to set up and maintain and just like Joomla it’s free. I really like being able to post via email. I’ve routed a copy of all troop group email to the site and it serves as a single point of contact for those parents who aren’t sure they are getting the troop’s emails.
Other than the $1 it cost me to get the URL, my troop’s site (http://www.troop42.info)is totally free.

Our troop's site can be found at here (http://www.melrosetroop68.org). It contains over 200 pages of over 25 years of Scouting and hundreds of photos.
I have heard it said that most blogs do not last for more then 6 months. Well my blog about Boy Scouting (found at http://melrosetroop68.org/blog.html) is now 1 1/2 years old and still going. Today I posted the 100th entry. Check it out.

Bob if you open your Internet search engine of choice (Google, Yahoo, etc) and enter District home page "BSA" (without the underline) you will get page, after page, after page, of links to District and Council websites.

Hi there
I am a Assistant Troop Scouter for 9th Pretoria (Irene) Air Scout Troop (www.9thirene.co.za), here in Pretoria, South Africa.
I am also the creator and administrator of CMScout (www.cmscout.za.net). CMScout.
CMScout is the premier CMS (Similar to Joomla) for Scouting. If you are looking to create a website for your unit, or if you want to upgrade your existing website to a modern, easy to manage website look now further.
CMScout is licensed under GNU/GPL and is free to anybody. All you require for CMScout to work is a web hosting service that has PHP and MySQL (Easy enough to find thanks to google).
CMScout includes features such as a forum, an advanced calendar, links management, photo albums, articles, etc.
The best is that only need basic knowledge of how to browse websites to install and use CMScout.
Point your browser to http://www.cmscout.za.net today and bring the Scouting Web into the 21st Century.
:)
If you have any questions regarding CMScout, please don't hesitate to ask me!

The Troop I am with currently doesn't really have a website right now. I am slowly working on changing that. I also run the InsaneScouter website http://insanescouter.org where we help leaders one resource at a time.

There are many really good Blogs and web sites out there these days.. and for the experienced and novice alike there is some really good Scouting information to be had.
As a blogger myself, I am always looking at others to see what is hot and what is not. Amazing that most of us Scouters think alike... or at least post alike.
Getting the Scouting message out there and telling our story is important. Visit the blogs and sites and pick up cool ideas, share with your units, or just visit.
Here are some really good blogs.
The Scoutmasters Blog (http://melrosetroop68.org/blog.html),
The Lone Star Scouter (http://buffaloeagle.wordpress.com/),
The Boy Scout Trail, (http://www.boyscouttrail.com/scoutmastermusings.asp)
A neat site that you can view multiple Blogs from; Half Eagle.com (http://halfeagle.com/),
and finally a plug for my own... the Scoutmaster Minute (http://thescoutmasterminute.blogspot.com/).
Check them out.. its worth your time.
Happy Scouting!

Hello fellow scouters:
I am new to this forum and I have found this place very informative. However, I wish there are more recent postings. :)
Anyway, our Troop is using Scout Web Service (http://www.scoutwebservices.com/) to host our web site. It is very easy to use and they provide a lot of tools and components (e.g. event calendar, email, photo album etc) to build your web site. The calendar allows the scouts to sign up for a certain event like campout online.
